Summary
GoodMornia is a privacy-respecting, local-first alarm, reminder,
timer and focus (Pomodoro) app. We have no user accounts and keep nothing about
you on any server. We do not collect, see, or transmit your personal data.
Everything you create stays on your device. The only features that use the
internet are the optional weather display (see section 3) and finding a place: by
name through Apple Maps on iPhone, or the address of your current location (see
section 2).
1. Data stored on your device
The following is stored only in your device's local storage and is never sent
to us:
Your alarms (time, label, repeat days, sound, volume, puzzle settings)
Your reminders and notes (including location-based reminders)
Your timers and Pomodoro sessions
Wake-up statistics, streaks and the mood you optionally record on waking
Your app settings (theme, accent colour, language, country/region, default difficulty)
Personal special days you mark, and all-day events mirrored from your calendar if you enable that
Any photo you choose as an alarm background, and ringtones you import
Your subscription status
You can remove this data anytime via Settings → Delete All Data,
or delete it entirely by uninstalling the app.
2. Permissions and why we use them
The app only requests permissions required for its features. Data from them is
processed on your device and is not transmitted to us:
Notifications: so alarms and reminders fire on time.
System alarms (iOS 26 and later): optional — lets the app
register your alarms with iOS's own alarm system, so they ring through Silent
mode and even when the app is closed. Only the alarm's time, label and chosen
tone are handed to iOS on your device; nothing is sent to us.
Location (including background / “Always”): only for
location-based reminders and the optional alarm location gate (e.g. activate the
alarm when you leave home). Used on the device to detect entering/leaving an area;
not sent to us. Background/“Always” access is needed so these work even when the
app is closed. On iPhone you can also find a place by name: what you type, the area
you are in (so nearby places come first) and the place you pick go to Apple
Maps to find it and draw a small map of it (Apple’s privacy policy applies).
When you use your current location (for a reminder, an alarm’s location gate or
prayer times), your phone looks up that spot’s address to name it: through Apple on
iPhone and, on most Android phones, through Google (their privacy policies apply).
Nothing is sent to us. For prayer times, the
place you choose (or your current location, if you ask for it) is stored on your
device only, and the times are calculated on the device without any internet
connection.
Calendar: optional — to create alarms/reminders from your
calendar events, to mirror alarms you create into your device calendar, and, if
you turn it on, to mark your all-day events as special days so alarms can skip
them.
Camera: only if you choose the “Dismiss with QR/Barcode”
puzzle or the photo mission. The camera feed is processed on-device in real time;
it is never recorded or sent. For the photo mission, the photo you take of your
chosen spot is kept on your device (in the app’s own storage) to compare the
morning photo with; morning photos are compared and discarded.
Physical activity / motion sensor: only for the “Steps” and
“Shake” puzzles. Steps are counted on the device by your phone’s own step counter
(or, on a phone without one, from the motion sensor); nothing is stored or sent.
Apple Health / Health Connect (sleep): optional — only if you
connect it in Stats or Settings. The app reads how long you slept (read only; it
writes nothing) to show it next to your morning mood. It is read on the device each
time you open Stats; it is not stored, not included in backups, never sent to us or
anyone else, and never used for advertising.
Photo Library: optional — only if you pick a background image
for the alarm screen, or the photo of your spot for the photo mission.
Exact alarm / vibration: so the alarm rings at the correct time.
You can revoke permissions anytime in your device settings; the related feature
won’t work without them, but the rest of the app keeps working.
3. Weather (optional feature that uses the internet)
Only if you enable Weather in settings, the app makes network
requests to show current weather on your wake-up screen:
It asks our own server, goodmornia.app (hosted on Cloudflare),
for the weather. Like any website, the server sees your device’s IP address and uses
it only to estimate your approximate (city-level) location.
The server asks the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway,
api.met.no) for the current weather at that location, rounded to about
1 km. MET Norway never receives your IP address.
We do not store this information, and no precise GPS location is sent. Weather
data: MET Norway, licensed under CC BY 4.0. This feature is
off by default; if you never enable it, the app makes no such
network calls.
4. Spoken morning briefing
If you turn on the spoken briefing, the app reads out the time, the date, your
alarm's label and — only if you also enabled weather — the current conditions. It
uses the speech engine built into your device. The text is spoken
on the device and is not sent to us or to any third party. The same engine reads out a
reminder’s text if you turn on “Read it aloud” for that reminder.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store
or Google Play. We do not see or store your payment details —
those are handled entirely by Apple/Google. The app only learns from the store
whether your subscription is active. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID /
Google account, not to any account in the app.
6. Backups
If your device's OS backup is enabled (Google backup on Android, iCloud device
backup on iOS), your alarm and settings data may be included in that backup and
restored on a new device. This backup is managed by Apple/Google under your
account; we have no access to it. You can disable it in your device settings.
You can also save your alarms, reminders, special days and settings to a file
yourself (Settings → Export Backup) and keep it wherever you choose.
That file is yours; it is never sent to us.
7. Sharing with third parties
We do not share, sell, or rent any personal data with anyone. Apart from the
optional weather providers named in section 3 and Apple’s and Google’s map and
address services named in section 2, we use no ad networks, data brokers, or similar
third-party services.
8. Analytics and tracking
The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising/tracking
tools. We do not track your behavior or build profiles.
9. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect
data from them. In fact, no personal data is collected from any user.
10. Data retention and deletion
Data stays on your device until you delete it. Settings → Delete All
Data or uninstalling the app removes your data from the device
completely. Since we keep no copy, there is no separate deletion request to send.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. For significant changes we will
update the “Last updated” date on this page.
